Household During the Space race of the 60s, competition between the USSR and USA was pretty intense. Flies, monkeys and dogs were all sent into space as part of the competing programs. However it wasnt until man entered space that the need to write stuff down arose (stupid illiterate astro-flies). In Communist Russia, ownership of something as aspirational as a ballpoint pen was clearly theft, and as such an alternative was required. Enter the Russian Space Pen (known elsewhere as a pencil).
